“Imagine…” (as John Lennon once sang). But then imagine something else: not John Lennon’s utopia, but instead, the consequences of it.
Just imagine...that you were born this year in these United States. Doesn’t matter where: Kansas City, Harlem, Seattle, Houston, Queens. Newark, Phoenix, Hayesville (Kansas), anywhere USA. You can’t understand it at that age. But just imagine...
With Social Security you’ve just been placed. You feel a letter from the Feds, dropped softly on your nursery pillow: “Welcome to the United States," they say. "We know you are just hours old, but we have a crucial question: Will you be paying taxes down the road? If so, and just to let you know, even when you were conceived those long nine months ago, your share of what we owe, with which you're born, was over one hundred seventy...thousand...dollars. Oh, and by the way, get used to it. If things keep going as they are, by the time that you start paying, your share will pass a cool million. Welcome to our USA!!" So says your Government.
Now envision in your mind the American Dream house you could have bought with all that dough (or just a small loft in New York City’s borough of Manhattan). But you’ll never get the chance. “We took it. We decided. You never had a choice (because as we all know, choice is only guaranteed for pregnant women),” so says the Government. “We’ve already spent it for you on a billion things you’ll never see or know about, and probably will never want. But it's all for the greater good, you see.”
“And that’s because we know what's best. Just ask past Presidents: Obama, Bush and Clinton, for a start. Then ask your favorite artists, TV stars, they'll tell you. Move on (.org) to CNN, your college profs, and ABC. In the echo chamber, it's all the same. And finally, the Senate Leader, PBS, and Speaker Ryan. Louder, louder, their echoes only ring, resound: "We know what’s best for you…we know what’s best for you …we know what’s best for you …” So promises your Government. And how's that working out?
But our children don’t just imagine. That’s reality, when with them you're born this year, "born in the USA." It’s time to stop this madness!!
And why did all this happen? Because as almost all of us watched passively, we let Big Business and the rest of them use Government for generations...
- To steal trillions from us
- And trade our freedom for their promise of security.
And we let them do it, because they let us take a small, so very small, small slice or two now and then, of that big, Big Government pie.
Again: This Must Stop!! We need men and women in our factories. We need men and women in our mines and oil fields, in our computer centers, homes, in our offices, and waiting restaurant tables. We need them everywhere.
We especially need that kind of men and women in the US House of Representatives and Senate, who will not tolerate the business as usual that slid past us for much too long. I am one of those men and women. Are you?
To stop that slide, the Federal Government must only spend on what fulfills the powers that are explicitly given to it by the Constitution. The vast majority of current Federal Government spending ignores and violates key parts of the Constitution, particularly the 10th Amendment. We should…
- Move as quickly as possible toward bringing the Federal Government into compliance with these Constitutional restraints and
- Let the states prioritize, fund, manage other functions of government as they see fit and as the Constitution requires.
Many Federal Government programs have not just been counter-productive, they have been disastrous for many of America’s most vulnerable citizens. Welfare is a prime example. For more details, read Uncle Sam's Plantation, by Star Parker (or something like it).
