This is a much better, fundamentally different strategy for solving the COVID-19 crisis that...
⦁ Is Risk-Based because it recommends different behavior for those we know are at higher risk of death from COVID-19 compared with those who are at very low risk. It does not treat us all like we have high-risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes.
⦁ Is Freedom-Based because it gives those of us who are at higher risk the freedom to determine how we want to be treated based on our risk tolerance instead of relying on the government to coercively dictate our behavior.

⦁ Solves the real medical problem: COVID-19 deaths (focusing on reducing the number of new cases is not essential), and
⦁ Immediately eliminates the need for indiscriminate, mass lockdowns that have crippled our economy. Also there is no need either for the gradual relaxation of those lockdowns that most states are implementing and the continued economic destruction that results. We can go back to work now.
We can safely implement this strategy because the scientific evidence is in: we know who COVID-19 is killing (Those with one or more of a few, easily identifiable, pre-existing medical conditions). We can effectively protect them and at the same time safely and immediately let the others of us (the vast majority) who are at very low risk get back to work. There is no need for...

Data from New York City show that about 99% of the people who have died from COVID-19 also had at least one of several, easily identifiable, pre-existing medical conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and a few others. This means that those of all ages who don't have those conditions have a negligible risk of death from COVID-19. These very low-risk people can all safely go back to work immediately and participate much more fully in the economy. We can protect those in the higher-risk group with provisions that are not nearly as coercively restrictive as what we've been subjected to in most states.
Much of the American public has been told that they are much more at risk of death from COVID-19 than they really are. An example is the mathematical models that were used at the beginning of the crisis that exaggerated hospitalization rates by up to factors of up to 10 and that were used to justify the lockdowns. Those models also predicted deaths in the United States in the 1.5 to 2 million range. Shifting to the strategy described here and publicizing it, as well as the justification for it, will give the American public confidence that the restrictions that have been imposed on them are no longer needed and were largely ill-conceived from the beginning.
Responsibility for continued economic destruction and snail's-pace recovery will lie squarely at the feet of politicians and public health officials who don't correct the record and break out of status quo solutions.
